church in the woods and then the other church we went into with the graves all around...
so today was a lovely day! i was so worried when i woke up this morning to find that it was foggy and rainy outside... which would've been a total bummer... there is a girl named maja in my culture class (she finds it quite boring being from denmark, but she is a real trooper!) she saw my pictures weeks ago when
i was taking pictures of all the cute danish houses on my bike ride to the ocean... she had told krista and i that her parents house was just like that and that she wanted to take us there to meet them and see their house and the country side around it if we wanted...
i'm so glad that the rain cleared up just before krista and i were to head out to meet maja... i almost chickened out i didn't want to get sick... again... and the rest of the day was absolutely PERFECT fall weather! i couldn't have asked for a better day! the map link shows a general idea of where we went but
not exactly... we took a bike path once we found the right one coming back and i refuse to show my actual place of living so yeah not exact but from the center of town that is where we went... :)
so we met maja about 2/5 of the way there... it took one phone call because we didn't take the most correct way that she wanted but we eventually found her... :) we went inside the very very cute danish church that was surrounded by a cemetary... maja said it is very danish (if they have room) to have the cemetary and the graves around the church (kirke) in a circle.... i thought it was very moving and beautiful.... it makes me want to start going to church again... but it is so hard here... i know where the catholic church here is but when bjorg and i went by there was no listing of an english mass... i really don't like going to church alone and if it is in another language it could be an even worse experience and i want me to want to go back to church once i start again... bjorg invited me to her service today but it
interfered with these plans but i'm sure at some point i'll try her church too... but anyways... it was very typical danish church and very cute at that....
one of my favorite things about europe is the history... some of these buildings have been around for centuries! and the things these buildings have seen! just blows my mind every time.
but after taking a peek into the church we rode down this lovely bike path towards a castle and lake.... the castle looked more like a huge manor house but i think it could pass as a castle just without towers :) it was hard to get pictures because it is owned privately so we couldn't get close and there were lots of trees around it.but we got to take a lovely walk around the lake and see lots of danish families enjoying the nature... there was even the cutest little church up on one side that looked right out onto the water!
it was soooo cute... maja said lots of people get married there... i'd totally love that haha... now to find a boyfriend on this continent... hummmm haha! might be a good start???
but anyways we sat by the water and had our packed lunches! loved it! there were ducks going crazy where we were sitting and lots of families came with their small toddlers to feed the ducks!
we were discussing that feeding the ducks is for grandmas and children... but i also enjoy feeding the ducks! so i guess i'm one of those... but i don't mind... reminds me of when my grandmas used to take us to the park to feed the ducks! :D
after eating we headed back to our bikes and headed up a large hill (we got slowed down and had to walk halfway... doesn't work when you are laughing too hard!) but it took us around 10-15 min to get to maja's parents house in a town made up of 5 or 6 houses!!! soooooo cute! we parked our bikes at her parents house and walked up and down the single street it really took us like 10 min to see everything...
we also found some buffalo! it was soooo weird... i guess there is a ranch that raises them a bit away from there but it was one of the pastures they use... we also found some sheep who had the creepiest 'baa's" you've ever heard! i guess maybe i just don't listen to sheep very often but there was one that sounded fake it was soooo weird! they started following us in the direction of the road i think they thought we were going to feed them... but we did not...
after our tour of the cute little town... we went back to maja's parent's house to have coffee & tea... to our lovely surprise maja and maja's mother had been baking! :) if you don't already know by now i have the largest sweet tooth anyone has ever seen i swear... so to have homemade bread, and two kinds of danish cakes was a lovely day! we had homemade rolls that were oh so yummy! and then maja made danish birthday cake! which was sooooooo yummy... i will be making it when i get back to the states..
next we had this pear pie/cake thing it was sooooooooo good! it reminded me of thanksgiving... and the pear's were from their garden! maja said that the birthday cake is usually made in the shape of the birthday person so it looks like a girl or a boy depending on who's birthday it is with their name in the brown sugar glaze... and it is supposed to have candy alllll over it! :) i will be getting the recipe so that i can make it back home... :) soooo yummy!
i can't even begin to describe their house... it was sooooo cute... most people would find it too small (at least people from the states) but i think that it being so cozy was the best part... it was typical danish and i loved it... i really really want to live in a house like that... wood stove in the middle heats the entire house... so warm and nice! cutest little kitchen...and my favorite part was the candles i believe it is the danish thing to have candles everywhere... tea candles mostly but then they had a candelabra on one side of the room... love it...

we sat around eating and drinking for about an hour i think... we wanted to get started on our way back before it got dark... which came all too soon!
it was a nice ride back... there were 2 insane hills... one i just couldn't do... i had so much momentum but then i felt like i was going to start rolling backwards if i didn't stop... haha!
we took the bike path all the way back into the city and had a lovely ride doing so... :) all and all as you can see on the google maps link it was quite a ride but a lovely lovely ride and great day!
my knees hurt a bit but i feel really good considering... :) yay lovely day...
